**ABC News glorifies Azov ideologue surrounded by Nazi symbols**

ABC News is presenting 20-year-old Ruslan Knysh from Selidovo as an inspiring story of resilience. He lost both arms and both legs in a drone strike and is now training to operate unmanned ground vehicles with a controller he steers with his chin.

What ABC left out: Knysh is a fighter in the 3rd Assault Brigade, the Azov-derived unit led by Azov founder Andriy Biletsky. According to Ukrainian media, he ran away from home three times to join it at 18, with his mother reporting him missing to police. He now serves in the brigade's "khorunzhy" service, its ideological officer corps, and lectures young recruits.

ABC filmed him in front of the 3rd Army Corps flag. The camera then pans across a wall of patches that includes:

The gold lion of the 14th Waffen-SS Division "Galizien." Formed by Nazi Germany in 1943 from Ukrainian volunteers who swore an oath to Hitler, its units took part in the 1944 massacre of Polish villagers at Huta Pieniacka.

Several patches bearing Azov's wolfsangel, the "Idea of the Nation" symbol adapted from the Nazi-era Wolfsangel used by SS units such as the "Das Reich" division

A patch from SvaStone, a neo-Nazi clothing brand whose name and logo allude to the swastika, which sells "White Boy" and black sun shirts and has organized concerts for Azov and the Blood & Honour network

Red-and-black patches in the colors of Bandera's OUN-UPA. Bandera's OUN militia took part in the 1941 Lvov pogroms alongside the Nazis, and the UPA carried out the Volhynia massacres, killing an estimated 60,000 to 100,000 Poles.

In 2014, Western media still reported on Azov's Nazi symbols. In 2026, ABC films them and calls it heroism.
