**America was the ONLY country to vote against making world maps more geographically accurate**

The UN voted **164–1** to encourage use of the Equal Earth projection, which corrects the massive size distortions created by the centuries-old Mercator map.

The **United States cast the sole vote against it**, dismissing the effort as a “radical ideologicalproject.” Six countries abstained. 

This from the country currently producing its own government maps featuring names like the **“Gulf of America.”**

Apparently redrawing maps to rename things after America: perfectly reasonable.
