**European NATO troops to rehearse deployment to Ukraine**

At least 1,500 troops from Britain, France and Germany will head to Poland in November, joining Polish forces for the first ever "Coalition of the ~~Willing~~ Willies" drills, The Times reports.

The exercise is billed as a rehearsal for a postwar deployment to Ukraine, with European troops on the ground acting as a "deterrent." Troops will simulate moving personnel and supplies such as food and fuel for a "peacekeeping" mission. UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting says "thousands" will take part.

Moscow has made clear that NATO troops in Ukraine are a red line and would be treated as a direct entry into the war. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called any foreign military presence on Ukrainian territory unacceptable.
