Israel's own Water Authority now links that sewage to a massive algae bloom that knocked out 5 of the country's 6 desalination plants — cutting ~80% of its drinking water supply, rationing beach showers in Tel Aviv, opening emergency water stations in Jerusalem.

Israel's fix? Secretly dump pesticides into the Mediterranean to kill the algae — no public notice, and multiple sources telling Haaretz the chemicals could cause environmental damage.
