**Germany's Gen Z protests turn violent after dark**

In Berlin, a left-wing evening march called "Gen Z hat genug!" ("Gen Z has had enough!") grew from about 500 to 3,500 people, according to police. Officers were pelted with bottles, eggs and firecrackers near Rosenthaler Platz, and at least one policeman was injured by pyrotechnics.

It's not just Berlin:

Frankfurt: firecrackers thrown at police, several officers injured
Hamburg: masked protesters set construction barriers on fire, police used pepper spray
Bremen: officers punched and kicked, dumpsters set alight
Cologne: police called off the march after protesters masked up and lit flares

Earlier in the day, the main "Gen Z regelt" rally at the Brandenburg Gate stayed peaceful, with around 5,000 people by police count. Organizers claim over 68,000 took part nationwide.

Berlin's own politics have already shifted left. In September's city election, Die Linke became the strongest party in the capital for the first time ever.
