Since 2022, Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) has lost more than 500 locomotives due to attacks, according to Politico.

The publication reports that over 60% of these losses have occurred in the past 8 months. Currently, Ukrzaliznytsia is losing an average of 37-40 locomotives per month.

It is difficult to quickly replace the damaged locomotives with European ones due to the different track gauges. A new locomotive costs approximately 5 million euros.
