Vulin told Informer TV by phone that he passed all the follow-up security checks and that nothing illegal was found on him. "I have no illegal money, I have no gold," he said.

He says he was going to Moscow to work on extending Serbia's gas arrangement, not as a tourist, and that he was asleep when the plane landed and woke to see police in front of it. He called the whole episode a political settling of scores and said he was sorry so many people had to return because of it.

Vulin also dismissed reports that top officials of the defeated government are preparing to leave Serbia with large sums of cash: "What is this, Colombia?"

He says he is now waiting to be allowed back on the plane.
