India’s indigenous LCA Tejas was among the final two shortlisted candidates for Malaysia’s 18 light combat aircraft requirement in 2023. However, South Korea’s KAI FA-50 ultimately won the contract, valued at approximately $920 million. In which the United States also played a significant role

According to a new report by EurAsian Times, Tejas’ lack of an established export and combat record at the time was a key disadvantage.

According to the EurAsian Times report, sources at HAL acknowledged the outcome. One source said:
“We were shortlisted for the Malaysian LCA contract. We were hopeful because we were a very strong contender on several parameters, but unfortunately, the outcome was not in our favour.”
