קפטן ז'אן לוק פיקארד היה "ליברל", "שמאלן" ו"קונספציונר", אבל הוא עשה את זה עם כזה חן, כבוד, אלגנטיות ואמונה בכל מה שנעלה באנושיות - שאני בהחלט מוכן לסלוח לו על כך. 

השחקן של פיקארד, סיר פאטריק סטיוארט שנפטר היום, היה שחקן גאון ומחונן, אבל בחייו האישיים ובאמונותיו הפרטיות היה הרבה פחות מוצלח מאשר הדמות הקלאסית שהפכה להיות מזוהה איתו. לא תופתעו לשמוע, מן הסתם, שבהקשר לעם ישראל - הוא היה יותר בצד של האויבים שלנו ושל תרבות המערב, מאשר איתנו ועם מורשתו.
