An investigation by The Independent into the Israeli double-tap strike that killed 22 Palestinians, including 5 journalists, at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis on 25 August 2025 has laid bare what two Israeli whistleblowers describe as a deliberate military method designed for maximum death.

Both reservists who served in southern Gaza said the attack bore the marks of a planned "double-tap" strike: a first shell to break the shelter, and a second, fired around ten minutes later into the gathered crowd, to kill the people drawn to the scene. "One shell is supposed to break the shelter, the second one kills the people," one said, calling it standard protocol to cause maximum human damage.

The other whistleblower described it as part of a "culture" designed to encourage "the most lethal outcome," "It's not a mistake … It's a deliberate method that is used by our government," and adding there was "a light finger on the trigger" and "no accountability whatsoever."
