Christians celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary on September 8, commemorating the birth of Mary. In Jerusalem, the feast has a particularly special significance and is traditionally celebrated at the Basilica of Saint Anne. According to Christian tradition, the basilica stands over the site of the home of Saints Joachim and Anne, Mary’s parents, and above a cave believed to be the place where the Virgin Mary was born.
