Palestinian Christians celebrating the Exaltation of the True Cross on September 27, filling the streets with scouts, instruments, prayers, faith, and celebration as they honor their God and true Savior, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. The feast commemorates when Empress Helena discovered the Cross in 326 . The reason for lighting the fires is that when the Empress discovered the Cross, Christians and her soldiers sent word to Constantinople via fire pits, starting from the Holy Land all the way to Constantinople. This tradition is still honored in the East by both Catholics and Orthodox Christians.
