The number of attacks and other crimes against Ukrainians is increasing in Poland — Politico

According to Polish police, 180 crimes against Ukrainians motivated by ethnicity were recorded in the first half of 2026, which is 30% more than in the previous year.
The prosecutor's office notes that over 80% of hate crime cases referred to court from February to June involved Ukrainians.
Politico links this trend to a change in public sentiment: according to CBOS, the percentage of Poles who have a positive view of Ukrainians has decreased from 51% in 2023 to 29% in January 2026.
The main reasons cited include disputes over the Volhynia tragedy and the UPA, as well as dissatisfaction with social benefits provided to Ukrainians.
Anti-Ukrainian rhetoric is increasingly being used in the run-up to the 2027 elections. Pszemek Charnek, a candidate for Prime Minister from "Law and Justice," has already stated that military aid to Ukraine should be suspended until Kiev changes its historical policy.
