Abdul El-Sayed (D) wins Michigan Senate, becoming the first Muslim senator in U.S. history.

SARAH, the wife of Abdul El-Sayed  traces her roots to Bhatkal in Karnataka. 

She is the granddaughter of Jukaku Shamshuddin, who served as deputy minister for finance in Mysore State under chief minister BD Jatti.
