CBC has instructed journalists not to refer to the September 11 attacks as **“terrorist attacks”** in their reporting.

An internal memo circulated ahead of the 25th anniversary tells reporters and editors to instead describe the events as hijackings that led to plane crashes in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.

CBC says the guidance reflects its longstanding policy of avoiding terms such as **“terrorist”** and **“terrorism”** without attribution.
