India attracted $351 billion in greenfield FDI during 2021-25, more than double China’s $159 billion, per BCG. India’s inflows rose 61% from $222 billion in the prior five years. China’s greenfield FDI fell 54% from $350 billion in the same period.

Greenfield FDI is a type of FDI where a parent company builds a brand-new operation in a foreign country completely from scratch. Instead of buying an existing local company, the investor constructs new factories, offices, and infrastructure on an undeveloped site.
