**Iranian rial crashes past 2 million per US dollar

Iran's rial has plunged to a new record low, falling to around 2.02 million rials per US dollar on the country's open market.

The currency has fallen sharply from around 1.53 million per dollar in early March.

The collapse comes as the United States prepares a major new economic offensive against Tehran, with Washington targeting Iran's remaining financial and economic lifelines.
