**PhonePe Moves Closer to Launching in UAE

India’s PhonePe has received in-principle approval from the UAE central bank for two payment licences covering retail payment services, card schemes and stored-value facilities. 

The fintech still needs final regulatory approval before beginning commercial operations. The move marks PhonePe’s first step toward establishing a locally regulated payments business in the UAE.
