AfD co-leader Alice Weidel has called for Germany to withdraw from both the **euro system and the Schengen Agreement** if her party comes to power federally.

Speaking in ZDF’s summer [interview](https://www.zdfheute.de/politik/deutschland/afd-vorsitzende-alice-weidel-zdf-sommerinterview-100.html), Weidel described the euro as an “unstable currency” and argued that Germany was better off before its introduction. On migration and internal security, she said Germany should close its borders and leave Schengen, while pushing for a substantially tougher deportation policy.

Weidel also said the AfD intends to **govern both at state and federal level**, as the party heads into September’s state elections with strong polling numbers.
