Blackwater founder Erik Prince has launched Vectus Air Defense Systems, a company offering “air defense as a service,” Axios reports. The subscription-style model will combine defenses including electronic warfare systems, guns and drone interceptors rather than requiring customers to build their own complete air-defense networks.

The service is aimed at governments and operators seeking to protect military bases, data centers, refineries, shipping lanes and other critical infrastructure from drone attacks. Prince said demand for private-sector protection is “very strong” and called for a drastic reduction in the cost of defense. Ukrainian drone software company Swarmer is a founding investor in Vectus with a 20% stake and will work with it on counter-drone technologies including sensing and swarming.
