Dmitry Medvedev outlined Russia’s main conditions for peace with Ukraine in an interview with Iranian state television:

**A neutral, non-nuclear and independent status for Ukraine:**

> “That means returning to the foundations laid down in their Constitution, the Declaration of Sovereignty and a number of other documents from the 1990s.”

**An end to the nationalist course of the current Kiev regime and condemnation of the bans on the Russian language and Russian culture.**

Medvedev noted that Russian had traditionally been used in Ukraine just as widely as Ukrainian.

**The transfer to Russian jurisdiction of the territories enshrined in Russia’s Constitution, including parts of Donbass and other new regions:**

> “This can be done through a diplomatic settlement, as has been stated directly. If that does not happen, we will do it militarily.”
