Gaza: economist says occupation-imposed economy keeps goods scarce, prices of cheap goods quadrupled

Mohammad Abu Jayyab told Al-Akhbar that the economy imposed by the occupation is distorted and not subject to any market or consumer protection standards. He said that even when minimum needs such as vegetables, meat and provisions are allowed in, the occupation maintains scarcity, so cheap goods have quadrupled in price and are now available only to the rich. He added that the wealthy class has shrunk to 5% of society, the middle class has been completely destroyed, and the poor class has expanded.
