**German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he would not have shut down the country’s nuclear power plants, arguing that Germany closed them before replacement capacity was in place.**


> “I am not responsible for shutting down the nuclear power plants in Germany. I would not have done that,” Merz told ARD.


He said Berlin is now trying to increase energy supply step by step, adding that the only path to lower prices is through “higher and better supply.”
