**German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has made an embarrassing U-turn over being photographed with Russia's Sergey Lavrov at the G20 meeting in Atlanta, according to BILD.**

On Thursday, Wadephul said joint photographs were inevitable and that dialogue was the “essence of diplomacy.” By Friday, he insisted there would be no “family photo” featuring European ministers alongside Lavrov. The traditional group photo was subsequently canceled following European objections.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova mocked the reversal, recalling that Wadephul had willingly met and posed with Lavrov in New York just a month earlier. _“How low Western diplomacy has sunk,”_ she remarked.
