**Germany’s federal government is preparing to restrict an AfD-led government in Saxony-Anhalt from accessing some of the country’s most sensitive military and intelligence material**, [NYT](https://www.nytimes.com/2026/09/22/world/europe/germany-afd-secrets-restriction.html) reports.

Plans under discussion include withholding the classified 1,000-page Operationsplan Deutschland, intelligence on Russian activities and far-right networks, and files concerning the AfD itself. Berlin is also considering rule changes to prevent an AfD-led state government from blocking joint federal-state security programs.

The AfD rejects the allegations behind the measures as unproven and says restricting an elected government’s access would be undemocratic. The plans could face legal challenges.
