**Greenland is not seeking EU membership despite a new €200 million EU investment package, Premier Jens-Frederik Nielsen said following European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s visit to Nuuk. 

Nielsen** [said](https://www.berlingske.dk/internationalt/groenland-siger-nej-til-eu-medlemskab-trods-milliardinvestering) **Greenland wants to strengthen its existing partnership with the bloc, but _“membership is not on the table.”_

**The EU, Greenland and Denmark also signed a new joint declaration expanding cooperation into critical raw materials, energy and digital connectivity. The €200 million package — roughly DKK 1.5 billion — will be invested in Greenland this year and next. 

Greenland left the then-European Economic Community in 1985.
