Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu [said](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suGYku5NDa4) the maritime domain has become an “international battlefield,” pointing to the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb, as he vowed to expand Israel’s surface and undersea warfare capabilities during a visit to the Ashdod naval base with Defense Minister Israel Katz:

> I am visiting the Navy base in Ashdod today together with the defense minister and Navy commanders. I am impressed by the strength, by the people, by the platforms. We know that the maritime domain has effectively become an international battlefield.
>
> You see it in the Strait of Hormuz, you see it, of course, in Bab el-Mandeb, and our enemies want to threaten our maritime space in the Mediterranean, our seaports and our maritime traffic. Of course, we will not allow that to happen.
>
> I heard from security officials that they need more platforms. A sixth submarine has arrived in Israel.
>
> They want more: more vessels and other capabilities that I am not going to detail here.
>
> But I will tell you one thing: in this domain as well, both surface and undersea, I intend for Israel to be one of the world leaders in this form of warfare.
>
> We will protect the State of Israel from the sea as well.
