[Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/us-considers-easing-sanctions-shadow-fleet-vessels-cut-freight-rates-official-2026-10-15/)⁠: The Trump administration is considering easing sanctions on shadow fleet vessels that have transported oil and petroleum products from Russia, Iran and Venezuela. 

The discussions aim to reduce record-high global freight rates by allowing previously sanctioned vessels to transport oil and petroleum products not subject to U.S. sanctions.

A U.S. official said the goal is to increase the flow of crude oil and refined petroleum products from the Gulf, while maintaining restrictions on sanctioned Russian and Iranian oil.
