**Russia will close Goethe-Institut branches in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg in response to Germany shutting the Russian House in Berlin, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov** [said](https://www.reuters.com/world/russia-close-goethe-institut-branches-after-german-drone-incident-foreign-2026-09-03/).

“_Of course, they will be closed after our cultural center was kicked out of Berlin. Otherwise, we won’t respect ourselves_,” Lavrov said. 

Berlin also ordered the closure of Russia’s consulate in Bonn after blaming Moscow for the Leipzig/Halle Airport drone incident, which Russia denies.
