Saudi Arabia has sought changes to an Oman-Iran proposal for managing shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, Axios’ Barak Ravid reports, citing a U.S. official. Riyadh reportedly fears the original framework could establish a new maritime order unacceptable to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states.

Oman has independently confirmed that the September 14 meeting in Salalah was [postponed](https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/oman-meeting-between-gulf-states-iran-postponed-omani-foreign-minister-says-2026-09-13/), but gave no specific reason. The Saudi objections and proposed amendments remain source-based reporting; the FT separately reports a lack of consensus among Gulf states.
