 **The European Commission will present proposals in September to overhaul the EU enlargement process, including reducing the number of areas where a single member state can block decisions, Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos said.**

The plans also envisage gradual integration of candidate countries before full membership and stronger safeguards allowing the EU to prevent or correct violations of its fundamental principles after accession. **Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine and Moldova** are among the countries Kos highlighted as leading the current enlargement push.
