**The number of visible commodity vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz fell to just five per day over the weekend**, [Al Jazeera](https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2026/8/31/iran-war-live-irgc-attacks-us-bases-in-jordan-after-us-bombs-larak-island) reported, citing shipping data.

The actual number may be higher, as some vessels switch off their Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) to evade attacks. Before the war began in late February, nearly 20% of global oil passed through the strait.
