The United States has effectively waged economic war against itself, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said, arguing that Donald Trump’s policies have imposed a massive debt burden on Americans and US allies.

_“He came with the campaign slogan ‘Make America Great Again.’ But what has he made great? He has made their debts great,”_ Rezaei said.

According to Rezaei, Washington now has to borrow at a rate 3.7 times that of 2020, adding roughly $3.7 billion in annual costs for every $100 billion of debt. He also pointed to Japan, where 10-year bond yields have risen to around 3%, describing it as the end of Washington’s “free ride”:

_“For Tokyo, this means higher debt costs, and for Washington, it means the end of the free ride and the arrival of the bill.”_
