**Volkswagen’s Osnabrück plant could soon switch from cars to military production**, with [BILD](https://www.bild.de/politik/inland/verteidigungssystem-iron-dome-volkswagen-steigt-in-die-ruestung-ein-6a915e72518a586e1855b418) reporting that an agreement involving **Israeli defense company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems is close and could be signed as early as September.**

Rafael plans to produce support equipment for the Iron Dome air-defense system in Germany, including heavy trucks for transporting missiles, launch equipment and generators. Because **Volkswagen shareholder Qatar reportedly objects to direct cooperation with the Israeli state-owned company**, Lower Saxony could acquire part of the plant and establish a joint venture with Rafael.

Production of the T-Roc Cabriolet in Osnabrück will end in 2027, and Volkswagen has been seeking a new use for the site. The proposed Rafael deal is expected to be discussed by VW’s supervisory board on September 4.
