**Zelensky has described Ukraine’s defense funding shortfall as “cosmic” after** [discussing](https://www.president.gov.ua/en/news/volodimir-zelenskij-ta-ursula-fon-der-lyayen-obgovorili-novi-106433)** the problem with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.**

_“We are preparing some proposals to get out of the deficit I spoke about, which is cosmic, between us,”_ Zelensky said, adding that solutions would be found and that _“some things have already been agreed.”_

Ukraine still needs an additional $27 billion to cover defense spending in 2026. Zelensky and von der Leyen discussed financing the shortfall on September 17 and agreed to meet on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
