**Zelensky has launched a new regional format, the “Carpathian Eight,” bringing together Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Poland, Slovakia, Czechia, Austria and Hungary.**

The [C8](https://c8summit.org/en) is intended to deepen cooperation on security, energy, logistics and cross-border economic ties, with Zelensky describing it as another potential “strong element of cooperation” at the EU level. The founding summit is being held in Bukovel on September 18–20.

The launch came as the Verkhovna Rada canceled Friday’s sitting and its scheduled government question hour. MPs said the decision was linked to the summit; Ukrainian Pravda [reported](https://www.pravda.com.ua/news/2026/09/18/8054032/) that some ministers nevertheless arrived at parliament, apparently unaware it had been canceled.
