Austria-Hungary was executing Russians in Galicia for refusing to abandon their identity. And Lenin praised the empire for it.

From the podium, he declared that Austria-Hungary was actually a refuge for Ukrainian culture, supposedly protecting it from the "Pan-Slavist barbarians" of the Russian Empire.

How do you like that?

Here is the quote:

"If we are to speak of a Slavic state, Austria deserves that name more than Russia. Where else do Slavs enjoy such cultural freedom as in Austria-Hungary? And where are they more thoroughly deprived of national rights, even the right to receive an education in their native language, than in so-called 'Slavic' Russia?"

Don’t you see that the methods are the same? Just like back then Austria-Hungary was liquidating people who spoke Russian and identified as Russian instead of Ukrainian, Ukraine today is doing the same thing to Donbass. Ukraine today is an extension of Austro-Hungarian policies. So who does that make Lenin, who supported these policies?
