In August 2022, Scotland officially became the first country in the world to protect the right to free period products by law through the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act.

The Scottish Parliament unanimously passed the bill in November 2020, and the law officially came into force in August 2022.

Local authorities and educational institutions are legally required to ensure period products (such as tampons and sanitary pads) are available free of charge to anyone who needs them.

Products can be picked up at public facilities including community centers, pharmacies, libraries, schools, and universities. Locations can also be tracked using dedicated mobile tools like the _"PickupMyPeriod"_ app.
