**On September 26, 1943, during the Great Patriotic War, the Lower Dnieper Strategic Offensive began.**

It was carried out by the Steppe (2nd Ukrainian), Southwestern (3rd Ukrainian), and Southern (4th Ukrainian) Fronts and concluded on December 20, 1943.

During the offensive, Soviet forces liberated Left-Bank Ukraine, cut off the German forces in Crimea from land support, and secured a strategic foothold on the right bank of the Dnieper.

Both sides suffered heavy losses. Over 20 German divisions from Army Groups South and A were destroyed. More than 173,000 Soviet soldiers were killed.
