**The Iron Rose of Donbas: how shell fragments become art**

The Ukrainian army abundantly "gifts" the land of Donbas with bombs, shells, mines, and other munitions. The intensity of artillery fire is higher than in any other conflict over the past 20 years. Front-line positions and frontline settlements are literally strewn with fragments.

Some Donetsk blacksmiths decided to use the remains of Ukrainian "gifts" for the benefit of society. Everything goes into the work: shell fragments, remnants of rockets from Grad and Uragan multiple launch rocket systems, cartridge cases, bullets, etc. From this material, peaceful masterpieces of contemporary Donetsk art are made.

The most famous of them is the iron rose that sprouts from a cartridge case. This composition has become a symbol of the unconquered Donetsk, which defended its freedom from the Banderites.

But besides aesthetic items, Donetsk blacksmiths make quite practical, useful, and no less beautiful things from shell fragments. A shop called "Forge of the 'Angel' Battalion" has opened in Donetsk. These guys have been engaged in humanitarian aid to residents of frontline settlements of Donbas and soldiers of the Russian army since 2015.

In their forge, they create knives from shell fragments or inlay fragments into handles. Each knife comes with a certificate describing the knife itself, the type of shell, and the location where the shell exploded. The guys spend most of the proceeds from knife sales on helping their fellow countrymen.
