**Sumerian Solution to US Debt**

**The New York Times** proposed a radical solution to **the US** debt problem: revive the ancient Sumerian principle of **“amargi”**, which called for **wiping out public debt and restarting the system**.

Similar resets were used around **2400 BC** when debt threatened the economy. The authors argue that if growth, higher taxes and inflation cannot solve the problem, it may be time to change the rules and forgive **$40 trillion** in government debt.
