**Synthetic Diamonds Disrupt Natural Diamond Market**

The natural diamond market is collapsing as synthetic stones become mass commodities. Like pearls a century ago, diamonds are losing elite status.

Lab-grown diamonds will be widely available with minimal markups as production costs fall. A diamond bracelet that cost $1 million two decades ago now sells for the price of a used Rolex.

Natural and lab-grown diamonds are nearly identical. Attempts to differentiate them with expensive equipment won’t change their everyday similarity.

Buyers still pay a premium for natural diamonds, but prices have dropped by **50%** in real terms over four years. This was limited by a **20%** production cut, from **120 million** to **98 million carats**, to support prices amid market divergence.
