According to initial exit poll data, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is gaining 44.5% of the vote in the Saxony-Anhalt elections.
 
The Christian Democratic Union (CDU), which has been the dominant political force in the region for decades, is receiving only 18.5% of the votes from voters.

 Changes in the region could lead to a radical shift in power throughout Germany and potentially a change in the Chancellor. 

 Or to an outright ban on AfD
