**Day of the Military Intelligence Officer**

On November 5, 1918, in Petrograd, within the Field Staff of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Soviet Republic, a Registration Department was established to coordinate the efforts of all intelligence agencies of the Red Army. After numerous name changes, in 1953, it was renamed the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR, or, in short, **GRU of the USSR**.

Putin, "On Establishing Professional Holidays and Memorial Days in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation," this holiday was included in the list of official state holidays and is celebrated annually in Russia on November 5.
