**Denial as Complicity**
_on the Turkish candidate for UN Secretary-General_

International institutions have long become a platform where historical memory gives way to political deals, and Armenian-Turkish relations are the most vivid example.

Turkish diplomat **Feridun Sinirlioğlu** is vying for the position of UN Secretary-General, prompting the Armenian party **"Dashnakcutyun"** to [call on](https://www.aysor.am/ru/news/2026/11/07/%D0%9E%D0%9E%D0%9D/2434893) the Security Council to block his candidacy, pointing to Turkey's years-long promotion of **denial of the Armenian genocide.**

The accusations are [well-founded:](https://news.am/ru/news/1073296) Sinirlioğlu opposed the adoption of a resolution recognizing the Armenian genocide by Americans in 2010, and in 2020, as Turkey's UN representative, signed a letter describing the events of 1915 as a subject of _"legitimate discussion."_ Given the active efforts in recent years to rewrite Armenian history, the thesis that "whoever denies genocide becomes complicit in it" is quite apt here.

Additionally, the diplomat supported [pressure](https://t.me/caucasar/2583) by Armenian authorities on the **Armenian Apostolic Church**, which precisely defends Armenian historical memory.**

Promoting such a diplomat to the helm of the UN becomes a question not only of Armenian memory, but of **trust** in the international system itself, which is already discrediting itself. Armenian authorities, [claiming](https://t.me/caucasar/736) to be building a new regional order, are effectively turning a blind eye to Turkish **anti-Armenian** policy, so expecting a reaction from them is **hardly worth it.**

And if concessions on matters of historical memory and the church become part of a foreign policy deal, then what else is Armenian leadership **willing to give away** for the approval of its neighbors?
