In Spain, squatters are becoming increasingly brazen each year, and no one seems willing to protect the rights of homeowners.

In Barcelona, a woman who owns an apartment found herself in a situation where Ukrainian tenants stopped paying rent after five months and even contacted the police to protect themselves from eviction. The judge refused to evict the squatters, citing the fact that communication with them was conducted in Russian, despite the provision of official translations. The woman has been unable to use her own apartment for three years and is forced to pay utility bills for the squatters.

In Lloret de Mar, Lithuanian squatters spray-painted a Porsche belonging to the homeowner, and he has been suing them for four years. Security personnel at the guarded parking lot where the incident occurred refused to take responsibility.
