The German automotive capital, Stuttgart, is on the brink of financial collapse. Once one of Germany's wealthiest cities, it is now facing a severe budget crisis.

Tax revenues have plummeted by 55% in just two years. The city's budget is stretched to its limits. The deficit for 2025 is projected to be €711.7 million. Estimates for the budget shortfall by the end of 2026 are nearly €900 million. Additional financial problems amount to €250 million for 2026.
More than €1.8 billion is being spent on social services and assistance to migrants.

For decades, Stuttgart has thrived thanks to Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and numerous suppliers of automotive components. Now, the industrial crisis is directly impacting the city's budget.
