For nine years it got kids and parents outside, phones in hand, chasing creatures on real streets.

Players filmed streets, parks, and yards – about 30 billion scans were collected through the game. What players didn't know was where that data would end up.

In 2025 the game was sold. The mapping tech stayed — and was handed to a US defense contractor working on Ukraine's drone program.
