**305 Years Since the Treaty of Nystad**

 Today marks **305 years since the Treaty of Nystad**, under which Russia formally acquired **Estland and Livonia, Narva, Reval, Riga and other Baltic territories** from Sweden — and paid for the settlement.
​
Notably, the treaty was **never formally denounced or terminated**, while the money paid by Russia was never returned.
​
 _Perhaps it is time to ask for one or the other: the lands stipulated by the treaty — or the money back, with 305 years of interest._
