**Brussels Moves to Block Russia’s Return to the 2028 Olympics**
⠀
The **EU is preparing visa bans and financial pressure** to prevent Russian athletes from competing at the **2028 Los Angeles Olympics**, according to an internal European External Action Service document cited by Politico.
⠀
Brussels is particularly concerned about Russia’s influence in **boxing, chess, fencing and judo**. The **International Judo Federation (IJF)**, which restored Russian athletes’ right to compete under their national flag and anthem in November 2025, has become a key target.
⠀
The EU is reportedly considering **cutting subsidies to sports federations cooperating with Russia** and pressuring sponsors and broadcasters to restrict their revenues.

_'Keep politics out of sports' — apparently, not anymore._
